Puppies!
The puppy comes home, sweet adorable and following you everywhere. A week goes by and now he's racing around, grabbing socks and jumping up on everyone. A few more weeks and you are ready to send him packing. Why? He's upset the household, eaten your best shoe and is taking way more time than you thought. No worries, this is normal. Rather than reacting to all his puppy antics, teach him your rules. Management with a crate, baby gates, leash on in the house, and tethering him to you, will limit his horizons until you can teach him some manners. When does this start? The minute you bring him home. Isn't he too young? Nope, teaching him how to live in your pack will create a dog you will enjoy for his lifetime. But he's so cute and follows me everywhere. Most pups do. This is the time, when he is so dependent on you, to lay the foundation for his manners. As he matures the world will be your competition so while you are his focus, use it to create a solid bond.
